William L (Bill)  Brown  CDT, AAACD , has been a certified Dental Ceramist for over 40 years. He has studied with master ceramists such as Willi Gellar, Matt Roberts, Brad Jones, Lee Culp, Ed McLaren DDS as well as many others. He has also done courses with Frank Spears DDS, John Kois DMD, Newton Fahl DDS, and others. He has been recognized nationally and internationally for his speed, skill and quality of his indirect restorations.
He is currently one of a small handful of dental technicians worldwide to achieve accreditation in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Accreditation consists of 1st completing a written exam which covers all functional and biological aspects of smile design, and knowledge of dental materials and technology. Then a series of specific clinical case types are photographically documented by the dentist and ceramist which demonstrate proficiency of all esthetic considerations. Once the clinical cases have been passed, the accreditation process is completed following an oral exam.
With over 40 years of experience and rigorous continuing education, Bill has refined his artistic ability to re-create nature and produce aesthetic restorations that seamlessly blend with surrounding dentition.
Bill was awarded 2nd in a world skills contest sponsored by the NADL in 1981, which put his work on the cover of the premier issue of QDT. In 1985 and 1986, he earned first place in the “fastest technician in the world” sponsored by the NADL. He waxed a 3 unit bridge in under 9 minutes and was also awarded first in function and anatomy. They quit having the contest as no one could compete with his speed. Bill did this for the fun of it, but his speed gives him the ability to help you out with cases that need attention more quickly than usual.
Beyond Bill’s professional accomplishments, when you send your work to Bill, you will realize that Bill loves his work, and loves the people he works with. Both you and your patients will enjoy your communication with Bill as he works with you to achieve beautiful and lifelike restorations. He strives to make his relationships as fun as they are rewarding.
He keeps his lab small and personal. He partners with his ceramist son, Craig, and his wife, Carol, who manages everything from the implant ordering, to invoicing and picking up your cases. This keeps communication with you and your patient’s specific needs simple and direct.
After serving a two year mission for his Church in Taiwan and becoming fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Craig attended BYU and graduated with a degree in Industrial Design. He did extended studies in animation and also in figure drawing, and while home one summer, started hanging out at the lab and discovered he really enjoyed using his creative skills in the lab, and loved the idea of working with his Dad. He brings an extensive understanding of color, form and design which has transferred naturally into his ceramics. He has become a talented and accomplished ceramist in a very short period of time.
He has studied under Lee Culp at the Dawson Center,  and more recently he has taken courses by John Kois DMD, Newton Fahl DDS, & Ed McLaren DDS,  among others, and is always continuing his education to further his knowledge and master his skills . Craig is also a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and is excited to take the journey to accreditation for the knowledge skills, and networking opportunities that it will bring to him.
One of the cases chosen (patient Christie) for the Ivoclar Smiletothemax campaign was done by Craig with his dentist brother Kevin Brown DDS. His work was also featured in the November 2012 issue of “ Inside Dentistry” in an article by his brother “Strengthening the Communicative Bond between Clinician and Ceramist.”
You will find Craig equally excited to work with you and your patients to bring you lifelike, natural and beautiful restorations.
